How getting social can boost your wellbeing

Since it’s National Conversation week, we’ve been chatting in the office about how the simple pleasure of having a conversation with another person can bring so much joy into our lives.

And, after a little research, we’ve learnt that not only does socialising feel good, it’s actually scientifically proven to boost your wellbeing.

So, here’s a few benefits which show you that chatting with your fellow humans is so much more than fun, it can increase the quality of your life dramatically!

Benefits of socialising:

Boost your immune system social engagement is associated with a stronger immune system. Simply by enjoying conversations and being around people will help you fight off colds and flue!

Lower your risk of Dementia – Socialising can even lower your risk of Dementia. Recent studies have shown socialising is linked to good brain health!

Reduce your stress levels – A great benefit of living a social life is that your anxiety and stress levels can be reduced a great deal. Friends can not only help you deal with stress and act as a buffer to its effects, but they can also encourage you to take better care of yourself.

You’ll live longer! – A study from Bringham Young University found that people with social relationships live 50 percent longer than people who are more socially isolated. (Isn’t that amazing!)

When we speak to the people who attend our weekly fitness classes, we find that many people come along for the social benefits just as much as the health benefits and that’s something we’re porud of.

We’re very lucky to have an incredibly talented and friendly team here at Nouveau Wellbeing and often people refer to their class as a ‘little family’.

So, we want to challenge you to introduce yourself to someone new in class this week. Are you up for the challenge? We’d love to hear over on our Facebook page!
